Building an Intrusion Detection System (Snort)- Continuing Series

In my recent security training journey, there has been a major emphasis on having a stand-alone intrusion detection/prevention system (IDS/IPS). Up until this point, we utilized the features that were built into our firewalls. After careful consideration, we decided to place a system in front of the firewall. I looked into a couple of IDS/IPS options and found that many security administrators were very fond of Snort. It is very powerful, and there are many add-on features available online since it is open source.

Once I decided on which IDS to pursue, I had to find a computer that included the specifications that I thought were necessary for a snort machine. .......

Adventuring into Network Security

About six months ago, we went through a thorough risk audit to satisfy one of our main clients. There was only one area in which we did not exceed expectations. This was the world of network and application security. Don’t get me wrong – we met the expectations, but we always strive to be one step ahead of the game plan.

The Right Tool: Recommended ASP.NET Resources

My father was a carpenter and he always insisted that you must have the right tool for the job. Even though my mother would argue that the “old man” spent way too much money at The Home Depot “looking” for that right tool, I believe he was correct and that same adage could be easily applied to programming.

There are many websites and books out there to help newer programmers learn the basics of ASP.NET. I’ve dug through many of them myself and found a few resources at the top of the list based on the ease of their tutorials and how practical to real life their examples are. .......continued
